The New York City Facade Inspection Safety Program
Supporting the New York City construction industry for more than a decade, Metropolitan Bridge and Scaffolding provides a range of pipe scaffolding equipment and services from its headquarters in Flushing, Queens. Metropolitan Bridge and Scaffolding maintains a particular professional focus on facade rehabilitation projects that bring buildings into line with the standards of the Facade Inspection Safety Program (FISP).
Formerly known as Local Law 11, the FISP stipulates that any owner of a building with six or more above-ground stories must pass regular inspections by an architect or engineer licensed by the State of New York. These inspections, which are an effective way to assess building exteriors for threats to public safety, incorporate all facade structures and outward-facing walls.
FISP inspections take place once every five years. The architect or engineer who performs the inspection must file a Local Law 11/98 Cycle 6 report with the New York City Department of Buildings. The purpose of this report is to establish and have on file a critical examination of the overall condition of facades and exterior walls in the city and to maintain an ongoing record of their condition over time.
